Before you start
- Set up salary structure (grades, designations, pay bands, statutory masters) before running your first payroll - payroll depends on it.
Every HR workflow - attendance, leave, performance and payroll - hangs off the employee record, so getting the foundation right first matters.
Build salary structure first
Before creating employees (or at least before running payroll), set up:
- Grades and designations - your job-level structure.
- Pay bands and salary components - what a salary is made of (basic, allowances, deductions).
- Salary templates - reusable combinations of components for common roles.
- Statutory masters - the statutory rates and rules your payroll runs against, kept as configuration rather than hard-coded logic so they can be updated as regulations change.
Creating employees
An employee record can originate from recruitment (requisition → job posting → pipeline → candidate → interview → offer letter → onboarding) or be created directly for someone already hired outside the system. Either way, the employee record then carries attendance, leave, timesheets, performance reviews and payroll history against one place.
Onboarding, moves and exits
- Onboarding gives a new hire a checklist from their offer letter.
- Move-out requests and resignations are tracked as their own workflow, ending in a Full & Final Settlement record.
Manager visibility
People managers get their own My Team view - team dashboard, team attendance and team requests - scoped to just their reports, separate from company-wide HR-admin access. Set this up by assigning the manager role correctly on each employee record, not by creating a separate account type.
Payroll
Once salary structure and employees exist, payroll runs against them, alongside annual bonus and increment processing. Payroll actions are permissioned separately from general HR access, so a manager can see their team’s attendance without being able to run payroll.
